About Department

Department of Textile Chemistry was established in the year 1971 offering ‘Undergraduate Program in Textile Chemistry’ with 10 seats as an allied department of Textile Technology. Looking at the needs of textile industry, it was separated with an independent identity with 60 seats in 2012. At present, it offers Undergraduate programme (BTech) with an intake of 60 students and deals with complete chemical processing of textiles viz., fibres, yarns and fabrics of different types. The curriculum also includes the technology of coloration. Additionally it is also an approved centre for doctoral research leading to degree of PhD.

It has well equipped laboratories including Chemical Processing, Analytical Chemistry and CCM (Computer Color Matching). These laboratories are well equipped with miniature forms of all machinery like Jet Dyeing, Padding Mangle, Stenter, Incubator, IR Dyeing Machines, etc. The department also has various testing facilities such as Computer Colour Matching System, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Ultra Violet Spectrophotometer, Liming Oxygen Index meter, Light Fastness Tester, Colour Matching Cabinet etc.
